Are you saved?  This is the most important question you will ever be
asked in your entire lifetime.  Your joy or your sorrow for all eternity depends upon your answer.
It is not a question of how good you are, nor if you are a church member, but are you saved?
Are you sure you will go to Heaven when you die?

Step #1 – ACKNOWLEDGE YOUR SIN

First, see yourself for what you are ... a sinner.  You were born that way and nothing that you can do in and of yourself will change that.  Sin is tragic and vile ... it blights, degrades and destroys.  It has dire consequences!

  • “…there is none that doeth good, no, not one.”  Romans 3:12
  • “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”  Romans 3:23
  • “The soul that sinneth, it shall die...”  Ezekiel 18:20
  • “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”  Romans 6:23

Step #2 – REPENT OF YOUR SIN

You must change your mind about sin and want God to end its mastery over you.  After all, sin is so bad it took Christ's death to make forgiveness possible for you.  You cannot wait until you die to make this decision because it will then be too late and you will have no time to repent but will instead be judged by the only True, Holy, Righteous God!

You must repent.  Repentance is not making a resolution to do better.  It is not just conviction of sin, for a person may be convicted that he is wrong and still not repent.  D. L. Moody liked to describe repentance this way: “Man is born with his back toward God.  When he truly repents, he turns right around and faces God.  Repentance is a change of mind, a change of heart, and it results in a change of action.”

  • “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:”  Hebrews 9:27
  • “And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.”  Revelations 20:12
  • “Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.”  Isaiah 55:7
  • “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out…”  Acts 3:19

Step #3 – BELIEVE ON JESUS CHRIST

Believe in the completed work Christ accomplished on the cross.  You must believe that Christ substituted Himself for you, that He died for your sins (though He never sinned Himself), and that He was resurrected from death.  Our sins nailed Him to the cross and placed Him in a tomb, but because of His righteousness and power over death, hell and the grave, He rose from the dead to live forevermore and offer healing, forgiveness and restoration to a right relationship with God to all who believe.

  • “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”  Romans 5:8
  • “Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.  But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”  Isaiah 53:4&5
  • “…believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved…”  Acts 16:31
  • “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”  John 3:16
  • “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”  Romans 5:8

Step #4 – MAKE YOUR DECISION TO TRUST IN CHRIST

You must believe in Christ and receive Him personally into your life by faith if you are to be saved from the power of sin and its consequences.  You can call on God for salvation by praying something similar to the following:

  • “God, I realize that I am a sinner and deserve to go to hell.  I willingly repent of my sinful life and believe Jesus Christ died for me to redeem my soul.  I want to receive Him right now as my personal Savior.”
  • “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and sup with him, and he with me.”  Revelations 3:20
  • “But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”  Romans 10:8-10
  • “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”  Romans 10:13
  • “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:”  John 1:12
