Founded in, March of 1961, Victory Baptist Church of Roan Mountain, Tennessee has always been a lighthouse for Christ in the mountains of East Tennessee and Western North Carolina. Over the years the church has grown from what was once itself, a little mission outreach, to having a world-wide effect through its own various outreach and evangelistic ministries.
Rev. Honeycutt and his family came to the church in August of 1970 and since that time, many great things have been accomplished in the ministry.
In 1972 Rev. Honeycutt started the Open Bible Hour Ministry which has now grown to a combination of daily and weekly Radio Broadcasts on national and international radio stations. These radio broadcasts led to the development of a Bible ministry where over 450,000 Bibles have been sent out, free of charge, to anyone who has written the ministry requesting a copy of God’s Word.
In 1984, the church built a new sanctuary and converted the old building into a multipurpose ministry facility which now houses many different outreach works around the world including the following:
- A Bible bookstore, started in 1985, known as the Open Bible Book Room which offers Bibles, study books, commentaries, devotional guides and other ministry related materials,
- A Printing Ministry where thousands of Gospel tracts, booklets and other Christian literature are printed each year,
- A Recording Studio to provide a low-cost, economical means for Gospel groups and individuals to record, duplicate and distribute their music,
- And, in 1990 a Bible College, known as VBC Bible Institute, which offers an alternative to high cost religious institutions and provides the opportunity to learn in a classroom setting, and via satellite schools or correspondence student teaching for both graduate and post-graduate degrees
Over the course of all these years the other local outreach ministries of the church have also included:
- Visitation and care of the elderly,
- Support of over 30 missionaries in 14 nations,
- Care of the sick,
- Flood and disaster relief, etc
God has richly blessed Bro. Jerry and Sister Patty and the congregation of Victory Baptist Church over the past 36 years. It still stands true that God is Faithful and rewards the faithfulness of His children.
